Annie Leibovitz on the Chrysler Building
New York, New York 1991
Gelatin Silver
by John Loengard

I chose this picture because it shows to me the determination that Annie Leibovitz has and her dedication to get that perfect shot.  I am a big fan of her photography especially the fashion photography that she does.  I wanted to select one of her photographs, but I couldn't decide which one.  Her works range from intimate, raw close-ups to elaborate themed studio creations.  The one thing they all have in common is that they make you feel something.  She is so meticulous in having just the right settings and pays attention to every detail.  For me, when I look at her work, she makes famous celebrities relatable or she can make an unknown model seem familiar.  Even the photographs that are staged scenes, such as her fashion photos, are elaborate setups, but always seem to tell a story.  I know I’ll probably never take photos like hers, but I least I can try to have the same determination to capture that perfect shot.
